Press Briefing following BAA’s announcement on proposed second runway siting

Diary Date and Photo-call Notice for Friday 9 December 2005, 12.30pm

Stop Stansted Expansion (SSE) will be holding a press briefing at the SAS Radisson Hotel, Stansted Airport, on Friday 9 December at 12.30pm for 12.45pm to comment on BAA’s revised proposals for the siting of a second Stansted runway.

The hotel is a few minutes walk from the airport terminal (on the other side from Enterprise House where the BAA press conference is planned for 11am).

The briefing will be led by Peter Sanders, SSE Chairman, with members of the campaign’s Executive Committee present to comment on specialist issues as required. Sir Alan Haselhurst MP (Saffron Walden), will also be in attendance.

BAA was forced to reconsider its plans for expanding Stansted after the High Court ruled earlier this year that the Government had acted unlawfully in specifying a wide spaced runway in its Air Transport White Paper (December 2003). The Judicial Review claim had been brought by Stop Stansted Expansion and other community groups and local authorities.

PHOTO-CALL DETAILS

At 2pm, campaign team members and core volunteers will regroup at the Three Horseshoes pub at Molehill Green which is threatened by the runway proposal. They will be available for photographs against the backdrop of the beautiful 500-year old thatched pub which will be decorated for the occasion. Journalists needing transport from the press conference to the Three Horseshoes should advise SSE while at the Radisson briefing.
