Jamie Oliver joins Stop Stansted Expansion campaign

Jamie Oliver is now a fully paid up member of Stop Stansted Expansion which is challenging the Government’s claim that airport capacity must increase fourfold in the South East and fight against its proposals to build another three runways at Stansted.

Jamie has issued the following statement to the media:

“Jules and I grew up in this area and we love it; we are going to bring our children up here. We are amongst the thousands of people in this area who are really worried and upset by these proposals; we just can’t begin to imagine the devastating impact that three new runways would have on the whole region.”

“Everyone I know is deeply concerned about how their children will be affected by the pollution and the intolerable noise associated with an airport twice the size of Heathrow. It’s not just about the pollution and noise; it would spoil one of the most beautiful areas of countryside in this country. Villages will be demolished and woodland and green belt land lost forever.”

If implemented, the Government’s proposals will destroy hundreds of people’s homes, including three ancient monuments and 64 listed buildings, severely impact on the quality of life ­ and health ­ of thousands more, and also wipe out whole communities, with an entire expanse of British countryside being concreted over.
