Campaigning against proposals to expand Stansted Airport

5,000 good quality second hand books will be put up for sale at The Old School House at the Four Ashes Crossroads, Takeley, on Saturday 6 November between 9.30am and 3pm.

The books, comprising fiction and non-fiction as well as children's reading material, have been donated to Stop Stansted Expansion (SSE) by people across the area and will be mainly priced at just 50p for paperbacks and 1 for hardbacks.

SSE volunteers have worked hard to organise the books into sections to make hunting for particular subjects and titles easier. A gift wrapping service will be available for the many books in really fine condition - or from the rarer editions section.

All proceeds will be donated to sustain SSE's continuing efforts to secure a moratorium on a second runway to safeguard the region in the longer term.

The Transport Secretary Philip Hammond recently announced that his department will be issuing a scoping document seeking answers to a series of questions on the shape of the new aviation policy early in the New Year. This will be followed by dialogue with a wide range of stakeholders to seek their views and to draw on their knowledge and experience. A draft policy document for formal consultation is expected in 2012. SSE expects to input into every stage of the policy development.

More information on the booksale is available from SSE on 01279 870558.

Philip Hammond's announcement on policy development was made in a speech to the Airport Operators Association and can be seen here.
