Campaigning against proposals to expand Stansted Airport

Stop Stansted Expansion's 2009 Community Calendar is launched this week as part of the drive to raise funds and awareness of the threat to the region from BAA's second runway proposals.

The cover of the calendar features the 18th century Stansted Windmill while its inside pages depict Essex, Hertfordshire and Suffolk villages including seven that have not previously appeared. Suffolk's inclusion recognizes the growing concern that has arisen there because of increased over-flying and proposed changes to air traffic routes.

SSE Campaign Director Carol Barbone said: "The reputation of the calendar has been well established since it first appeared in 2003, both for its high quality and the powerful daily reminder which it provides of the countryside and heritage threat posed by expansion plans for the airport. It is also a vital part of SSE's fundraising programme."

Sales of the calendar last year raised a profit of 26,000 for the campaign fighting fund.

The calendar will be sold through 30 shops across Herts and Essex and by a volunteer door-to-door sales team. The combination of a large print volume and zero costs apart from printing allows the price to be held at 6. All photos were donated by amateur photographers, all of whom are supporters of SSE.

The Calendars can also be ordered by post for UK and overseas mailing at a small extra charge to cover postage and packing. For further information, details of sales points and online order forms see the Calendar page or call the SSE Campaign Office on 01279 870558.
